Tired of the "Ding-Dong" sound from your doorbell then check this out!

globe101.gif Thursday, 11 October 07 - 01:42 PM (GMT -05:00)
By Dennis Landayan in Gadgets

If you can't get enough gadgets into your home then add this to your list, the USB Doorbell available from Think Geek ( a cool website for gadget fans). The ability to customize your doorbell's sounds from your favorite music, movie theme songs, audio clips or any sound effects that you desire by just uploading the file via the usb port. The USB Doorbell can accomodate up to a 30 seconds sound clips ( wave or mp3 format) with three different volume settings so the unit is flexible enough for most homes.

I really like the idea of being able to customized my door bell sound like i have custom ring tones for my cell phone. So if i have a USB Doorbell installed at my house below are just some of my  favorite sound clips to replace that boring ding-dong sound.

TV Shows theme songs: Addam's Family, The Munsters, The Jeffersons, I Love Lucy, Andy Griffith Show

Movie theme songs: Star Wars, Superman, Spiderman, Twilight Zone, Halloween ( original), Jaws

Audio clips: voice of Hal from 2001 Space Odyssey, 300 ( Spartans!), Darth Vader's voice, Bugs Bunny ( What's up Doc?), Kit from Knight Rider

Other: Holiday songs, Birthday song, Anniversary songs, Popular songs

As you can see by the sample list above, you are only limited by your imagination to the plethora of songs and sound clips available out there.

Important installation information from Think Geek:

Notes: The USB Doorbell is NOT a wireless doorbell. It is designed to be used in homes with pre-wired LOW VOLTAGE doorbell systems (which is the standard doorbell system). The USB Doorbell does not include a step down transformer, and is only designed to be used within a low voltage circuit (4-24 V). If you are unsure where your step down transformer is in relation to your current chime unit(s), do some research first! Occasionally they are attached to the chime itself, hence replacing your current chime may also remove the transformer. There are plenty of DIY websites out there that can help you figure out the details!

Check out the video below from Think Geek to see the USB Doorbell in action ( very funny...just watch it).

A great Holiday bundle for the Xbox360 system!

globe101.gif Tuesday, 09 October 07 - 06:35 PM (GMT -05:00)
By Dennis Landayan in Video Games

Xbox 360 with Two Free Games

With the amazing numbers that Halo 3 produced the last couple of weeks, Microsoft is providing gamers two more reasons to choose the Xbox 360 system with two new Holiday bundles ( available by the end of October 2007). The already reduced price of the Xbox 360 of $349 and $449 for the Xbox 360 Elite will be more enticing this Holiday season with two bundled games, Forza Motorsport 2 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance. This is a great value for those who are thinking of buying the Xbox 360 game console and now you will get two free games that are top-notch. In addition, this is a perfect time to own an Xbox 360 with an impressive line up of games that are coming out soon such as Mass Effect, Project Gotham Racing 4, BioShock, Guitar Hero III, and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

Kudos for Microsoft for including two great games for a console that is already selling extremely well because of its extensive library of games and the popularity of Xbox Live with its millions of members. With the price reductions and bundle announcements, Microsoft will continue to increase its marketshare this Holiday season and Halo 3 will continue to be the most popular title through the end of the year.

 GCYCLE

Recycle your old batteries, gadgets, and other tech related items that are probabably collecting dust in your closets or basement. Instead of throwing them in the thrash which ends up into landfills do the right thing and recycle. Earth 911 and G4 teamed up to create GCYCLE so everyone can participate in recycling old electronic items. According to some data, "over 100 million computers, monitors, and televisions become obsolete each year" and this number is increasing each year with the popularity of high tech gadgets, cell phones, computers, and electronics.

Halo 3 = $300 million in sales world wide!

globe101.gif Friday, 05 October 07 - 11:49 AM (GMT -05:00)
By Dennis Landayan in Video Games

A history in the making in the video game industry, Halo 3 made more money in the first twenty four hours than any other block buster movies this year. I knew this game will be big but i did not expect it to sell that many copies in one day and making $300 million world wide in one week. Witht this amount of copies, i expect the Xbox 360 hardware sales to increase also during the same week. Bungie and Microsoft should be proud of themselves for making a video game that actually lives up to the hyped and then some. Check the sales figures below and remember this is for a video game not a blockbuster Hollywood movie.

 .

Pre-orders: 1.7 million copies

First day ( US): $170 millions in sales

First Week ( worldwide): $300 million in sales

Xbox Live: Over 1 millions players logged on to play halo 3 the first 20 hours!

More than 2.7 million gamers played on-line the first week.

Retailers: Over 10,000 hosted midnight madness events

Released: 37 countries and 17 langueages

Slim...Sexy...All-In-One Computer...and no its not an iMac

globe101.gif Thursday, 27 September 07 - 11:27 AM (GMT -05:00)
By Dennis Landayan in Computers

Gateway All-In-One PC

A few days ago i've posted an ad comparing the new iMac with a traditional desktop pc and the visual result is clear, Apple is the winner when it comes to the design category. The problem with most desktop computers are the plethora of cables at the back of the unit and when i saw the new Gateway One Computer, the desktop pc design finally caught up with Apple. As you can see at the picture below, the Gateway One is very sleek and well design all-in-one computer system with a high gloss look and clean design ( no cable clutter!).

The i/o power bar is the most revolutionary aspect about the system since most of the interface connections are built-in to the unit ( very ingenious Gateway). So no more cable clutter above the desk instead they will be hidden below where they should be in the first place. For the first time, i'm actually excited to see an all-in-one computer design that actually looks good for a change and adds new features like the i/o powerbar that will surely be copied by other pc manufacturers.

                                                                         credit: Gizmodo

 Features:

  •  Intel® Core(TM) 2 Duo processor
  • Advance graphic options ( ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 2600 XT graphics, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 )
  • Smooth polish front finish
  • side mounted DVD burner
  • 5 in 1 card reader
  • high fidelity audio via NXT SoundVu patented exciters
  • Media Center remote-control
  • Wireless keyboard and mouse
  • i/o power bar ( hides cable clutter): optical audio S/PDIF output jack , coaxial audio output jack, four USB ports, gigabit ethernet port, AV ports, IR Blaster jack
  • three USB ports, Firewire port, audio output
  • Intel® Next-Gen Wireless-N technology
  • Bluetooth
  • Expandable via the tool-less chassis

Gateway plans to ship two retail version of this unit in late October and a single on-line model. Also, if you happen to be in New York City this week, the Gateway One is on display at the Digital Life Exhibit ( September 27 - 30 at the Javits Center).

Just Launched...Watchout iTunes!

globe101.gif Wednesday, 26 September 07 - 01:41 AM (GMT -05:00)
By Dennis Landayan in General

The Amazon MP3 Store

Amazon just launched their public beta of their digital music download service that will give iTunes a run for its money. The Amazon mp3 store will feature DRM free music selections and the price is just right at $.89 or $.99 per song and the best part is they are encoded at a high quality 256 kbps ( sweeeet!). The site will initially offer two million songs from 180,000 artist and the price of the albums will range from $4.99 and under to $9.00 and above. Major record labels such as EMI and Universal will be supporting the Amazon MP3 store and hopefully more companies will be joining to expand this iTunes alternative music portal.

Midnight Madness = Halo 3 ( We can all finish the fight at midnight!)

globe101.gif Monday, 24 September 07 - 02:47 PM (GMT -05:00)
By Dennis Landayan in Video Games

The most anticipated game this year ( maybe in history!) will be finally release at midnight ( 12:01 to be exact) and fan boys across the country will be lining up at their local game store to purchase Halo 3. The media blitz for this game began a year ago from E3 and finally will explode tonight at 10,000 U.S. retailers and special events will be taking place at New York, Los Angeles, Seattle, and Miami.

I have been a video game player since the release of the Atari 2600 and played with all the game consoles ( owned most of them) and i've never seen this type of excitement over a video game. Infact, i was scanning my Sunday Newspaper yesterday and most of the ads from major retailers such as Bestbuy, Kmart, Circuit City, and Walmart have somekind of Halo 3 promotions. Even today, CNBC did a story on the release of this game and the impact on Microsoft's game division ( their stock went up) which has been in the red since the beginning. According to gamesindustry.biz, Microsoft already sold 1.5 million copies ( preorders) of Halo 3 in the U.S. surpassing the previous record from Halo 2 which is no small feat. The number of hardware sales of the Xbox 360 will also be significantly affected ( on the positive side) since most of the original Xbox owners are waitingfor this title. I can't wait to play this game and will surely enjoy it for many months to come.

Halo 3 Review from Gamespot

Early reviews from some of the major gaming sites!

  1. GamePro (100/100)
  2. Game Informer (98/100)
  3. GameSpot (95/100)
  4. Famitsu ( 37/40)

Update: Attack of the Show ( channel 175 on Cablevision) will be doing a 5 hour special on Halo 3 tonight!

Apple vs PC : No Contest when it comes to cable clutter.

globe101.gif Friday, 21 September 07 - 02:44 PM (GMT -05:00)
By Dennis Landayan in General

If the comparison below invokes a subliminal message that Apple users are neat and PC users are messy then it work. Well joking aside, the design of Apple computers are always sleeker and sexier than their PC counterparts. For years, PC manufacturers( exp. Sony with their Vaio systems) tried to emulate the Apple design with an all-in-one unit or slimmer package but they failed to deliver the style and function of the iMac. Imagined, if Apple bundled a blue tooth keyboard and mouse instead of the wired version then you will see only one cable coming out of the system...talk about a clean design.

So what do you think of the comparison below?

A neat gadget that everyone can use.....

globe101.gif Friday, 21 September 07 - 09:55 AM (GMT -05:00)
By Dennis Landayan in Gadgets

I was watching one of my favorite cable show lastnight, The Big Idea : Donny Deutssch, which is basically a program about regular people like you and me who made millions with their idea or inventions. The show itself is very entertaining and informative and Donny Deutsch ( the host) energetic personality and humor makes the one hour show go fast.

Anyway, one product that caught my attention is the "Smart Shopper" which is a device that uses voice recognition technology to help you with your grocery list or errands. The Smart Shopper's concept is simple enough, you tell the unit which item you want to add to your grocery list and it will record and organize your shopping list.

Once you completed your grocery list, just hit the print button and the unit will print out the list that you recorded. This is better than jotting your list on a piece of paper or memorizing the stuff that you needed since most of the time we forget the most important items.

I like the idea behind the Smart Shopper, its simple and easy to use for the whole family. Eventhough the price is a little steep, it will save you a lot of frustrations for those days that you forget to buy that important item(s) on your grocery list.

There is a new Robot in town.....

globe101.gif Thursday, 20 September 07 - 02:31 PM (GMT -05:00)
By Dennis Landayan in Tech Toys

Tomy will be releasing a $300 miniature robot called the i-Sobot this October just in time for the holiday season. Compared to Wow Wee's popular geek toy, the RoboSapian, the i-Sobot is much smaller in stature, infact the actual height is 6.5 inches tall. But don't let the size fool you (remember size doesn't matter...for robots anyway), since this model has three cpu's, 17 servo motors, and gyroscopic sensors to give it a more realistic and fluid motion. Additional features such as programmable mode, voice command mode and remote control mode makes the Tomy i-Sobot more than a toy robot but a state-of-the-art technology show piece.

Take a look at the video below and be amazed by the capabilites of the i-Sobot.

i-Sobot vs RoboSapian

globe101.gif Thursday, 20 September 07 - 02:30 PM (GMT -05:00)
By Dennis Landayan in Tech Toys

Tech gadgets, electronics, computers, and video games will be the most requested items this holiday season. But one tech toy that seems to be gaining in popularity each year are the toy robots. Ever since the introduction of Sony's Aibo ( Artificial Intelligence roBOt ), the high-end robotic pet in 1999, a lot of toy companies tried to duplicate the amazing technology from this model by manufacturing cheaper and smaller version of this unit. However, most of this lower end toy robots are basically limited in motion and programmability.

So here comes Wow Wee who produced the RoboSapian toy robot several years ago with more capabilities and a lower entry price. The RoboSapian model was design by Mark Tilden and ever since the first introduction of this toy robot, the toy industry suddenly became flooded with similar products. The Wow Wee RoboSapian model is the most popular of the bunch because of its size, design ( very high-tech looking), programmability, range of motions and most importantly the price.

Toy manufacturer Tomy will be slated to bring the i-Sobot in October for the price of $300 and you can also pre-order from Amazon.com. The i-Sobot will be the first serious challenger to the RoboSapian model for the must have tech toy this coming holiday season.

Want to publish a small site quickly? Take a look at this amazing tool!

globe101.gif Wednesday, 19 September 07 - 01:00 PM (GMT -05:00)
By Dennis Landayan in web tools

This must be one of the coolest web tools i've ever seen! So many web apps out there claims to be simple and powerful but normally failed to bring both features to one application. This tool is so easy to use that anyone can start using it to create web pages or wikis.

Jottit is an amazing tool because its simple to use and flexible enough for most people. The interface on the site is basically a text box where you type your contents and within seconds instant webpage or wiki! The nice feature of Jottit is the preview screen editor where you type your text and the results will appear on another window so no more guest work for the final format. Once you finished your page, the site can be shared privately (which required a password) or open to the public to view and edit the page.

You can also use HTML to format your pages so you can create links, add images, and make list. Once you publish your page, the settings and design options can be access on the upper right hand corner of the screen. These options will enable you to adjust the color scheme, fonts, add Title, subtitle, and site address. The History feature will also enable you to see the revisions on the pages ( depending if you set the page as private or public) which is a great option for the wiki enthusiast.

If you are a Youtube or Flickr user, both contents can easily be embedded to the Jottit page. So you can add a Youtube video or show a Flickr slide show to enhanced your web site.

Jottit may not be loaded with features but its design to be simple and easy to use unlike other web tools in this category.

note:

Check-out this page that i've created using Jottit which you can view and edit ( please be clean and professional with the contents).

Chat with friends while biking!

globe101.gif Tuesday, 11 September 07 - 01:36 PM (GMT -05:00)
By Dennis Landayan in General

Imagined, a personal transport developed to accommodate you and your family members ( or friends) at the same time and you will get the Conference Bike, taking the recreation fun to the next level. The design of this bike is really ingenious, it can accomodate 7 people at the same time with one person controlling the streering wheel for easy navigation. The only downside i see in owning this unique bike is everyone will want to ride it and no one will want to get up. I don't know the cost of the Conference Bike but e-mailing the company will provide you with the latest prices and ordering information. Eric Staller, the inventor of the Conference Bike might not have developed the next evolution in personal transportation but he certainly created a unique design.
