Just Launched...Watchout iTunes!

globe101.gif Wednesday, 26 September 07 - 01:41 AM (GMT -05:00)
By Dennis Landayan in General

The Amazon MP3 Store

Amazon just launched their public beta of their digital music download service that will give iTunes a run for its money. The Amazon mp3 store will feature DRM free music selections and the price is just right at $.89 or $.99 per song and the best part is they are encoded at a high quality 256 kbps ( sweeeet!). The site will initially offer two million songs from 180,000 artist and the price of the albums will range from $4.99 and under to $9.00 and above. Major record labels such as EMI and Universal will be supporting the Amazon MP3 store and hopefully more companies will be joining to expand this iTunes alternative music portal.

Apple vs PC : No Contest when it comes to cable clutter.

globe101.gif Friday, 21 September 07 - 02:44 PM (GMT -05:00)
By Dennis Landayan in General

If the comparison below invokes a subliminal message that Apple users are neat and PC users are messy then it work. Well joking aside, the design of Apple computers are always sleeker and sexier than their PC counterparts. For years, PC manufacturers( exp. Sony with their Vaio systems) tried to emulate the Apple design with an all-in-one unit or slimmer package but they failed to deliver the style and function of the iMac. Imagined, if Apple bundled a blue tooth keyboard and mouse instead of the wired version then you will see only one cable coming out of the system...talk about a clean design.

So what do you think of the comparison below?

Chat with friends while biking!

Imagined, a personal transport developed to accommodate you and your family members ( or friends) at the same time and you will get the Conference Bike, taking the recreation fun to the next level. The design of this bike is really ingenious, it can accomodate 7 people at the same time with one person controlling the streering wheel for easy navigation. The only downside i see in owning this unique bike is everyone will want to ride it and no one will want to get up. I don't know the cost of the Conference Bike but e-mailing the company will provide you with the latest prices and ordering information. Eric Staller, the inventor of the Conference Bike might not have developed the next evolution in personal transportation but he certainly created a unique design.

David vs Goliath

globe101.gif Saturday, 01 September 07 - 02:05 PM (GMT -05:00)

 Amazon to Launch i-Tunes competitor

Once again, Apple is facing another challenger for the digital music business but this time its from Amazon one of the leading online seller. The music download service is set to launch in mid September but some experts believe that since Amazon pushed the time table several times before the date is not definite.

The key factor for the Amazon music service is the omission of DRM ( digital rights managements) which will be attractive to a lot of ipod owners. Since Amazon is not supporting the anti-copying technology, a few of the major labels will not be selling music downloads for this service.

If Amazon really wants to compete in the digital music business dominated by iTunes, they need to set the prices low enough for the consumers to switch to their service. At the same time, Amazon should also match the number of songs that iTunes have on their site. The interface of the website should also be userfriendly enough for the new customer to navigate and a tech savy user to appreciate. In the end, the consumer will decide which music download service will reign supreme.

The Price of Gas around the Globe...Ouch!

globe101.gif Friday, 06 July 07 - 10:48 PM (GMT -05:00)
By Dennis Landayan in General

Think you pay a lot for gas? Compare your location to other countries.

( via: jeans blog )

I thought we have it bad here in the United States and after viewing some of the gasoline prices from other countries...it could be worst. As you can see if you live in Caracas you will be paying .17 cents per gallon but if live in London then you will be paying a whopping $6.65 per gallon ( public transportation anyone). Below are a list of links for gas pricing information for your location ( mostly US) and hybrid comparison list from different auto makers.

1) Search for the lowest gas prices in your area: Map Quest Gas prices

According to the site, the lowest gas price in the United States is $2.24 in Ararat, Virginia and the highest is $3.90 ( as of 07-06-2007).

2) Search for the lowest gas prices in your area: Gas Price Watch.com

Links for gas prices information and more.

7 ways to save gas using the internet

  1. Instead of driving to the florist to buy flowers, order on-line and have it deliver.
  2. Instead of driving to your local video store just rent the movies online ( Netflix or Blockbuster).
  3. Instead of driving across town to see a friend or a relative just video chat on-line.
  4. Instead of eating out...order online and have the food deliver to your home ( more and more fastfood places have on-line ordering option like Papa John's Pizza).
  5. Instead of going to the mall to shop...order on-line and enjoy free shipping from some internet sites.
  6. Instead of driving from dealer to dealer to find the best car deals just go on-line and compare prices from different models using internet sites such as carsmart.com , carsdirect.com , nadaguides.com , autobytel.com.
  7. Instead of printing your digital pictures at your local photo shop ( CVS, Walgreens etc.), upload them online, pick your favorite ones and have them deliver to your home.

Interesting concept....I like it!

globe101.gif Sunday, 01 July 07 - 06:15 PM (GMT -05:00)
By Dennis Landayan in General

Teach kids and teens to be more responsible and manage their money.

What if you can teach children to be more responsible with their money and at the same time help around the house. A company called Payjr Inc provides a prepaid master card for young teens ( 13 & up) and they also have a "chore management" system for the younger kids ( 12 & under). The concept is simple yet very powerful, parents can actually leverage the card as a tool to teach their children to be more productive at home and at the same time more responsible with their money.

In addition, kids today ( especially teens) are very sophisticated with their spending habits like online purchases of music, movies, and electronic gadgets such as mp3 players and video games, they will greatly benefit on a prepaid card system. The best feature of the Payjr card is the convenience to load the card with funds and the card is insured by the FDIC. If a teen-ager is able to learn how to budget and to be more responsible with their money then this Payjr prepaid card is absolutely worthed.

If this video doesn't touch your heart nothing will....

globe101.gif Wednesday, 13 June 07 - 02:09 PM (GMT -05:00)
By Dennis Landayan in General

Since Father's day is just around the corner, i thought i will post this video that shows a father's love and dedication for his son. Dick Hoyt is the father and Rick Hoyt is the son who together have run in marathons, triathalons, and even traveled 3700 miles across the United States. Both of them are the inspiration for all the father and son ( daughter) everywhere for showing us the meaning of "togetherness".

I've found a quote from the internet ( i don't know who's it from) and it basically sums up the video below and the meaning of a father's love.

"The love of a father is one of nature's greatest masterpieces."

Last Tango for Paris...Oh Noooooooooo!

globe101.gif Friday, 08 June 07 - 03:30 PM (GMT -05:00)
By Dennis Landayan in General

Judge orders Paris Hilton to served a full 45 day sentence. What a shocker, the judge that sentence Paris originally, ordered her to be picked up from her home (mansion) this morning to be sent back to jail.

Just yesterday, she was ordered to served the remaining sentence at one of her mansion. But today, the order was reversed and Paris is back at her closet size room in prison.

I believed this is wrong because Paris is being made as an example by the justice system. The outrage from yesterday is the result of today's action by the judge... more like a power struggle between the judge and the sheriff.

Score:

Judge: 1                         Sheriff: 0                       Paris: back to prison food

note: I know this is not a technology news but i can't help putting my two cents to this story.

Humor break: watch the video below....funny!

Bill & Steve....The Odd Couple

globe101.gif Thursday, 31 May 07 - 02:51 PM (GMT -05:00)
By Dennis Landayan in General

That was a real treat watching Bill Gates and Steve Jobs at the D5 conference yesterday as they compliment and acknowledge each others contribution. I admire both of these guys because they contributed so much in the development and advancement of the personal computer and software applications.

The one thing i noticed during the interview was how Bill Gates managed to avoid mentioning the name of his biggest competitor/enemy right now which is "Google". Steve Jobs seems to be embracing the prospect of collaboration with the right partners while Bill Gates have a different vision. With Microsoft myriads of projects and developments, the Redmond company is facing competitors from all sides while Apple seems to be concentrating to be the global leader with their hardware technology.

In the end, it was the rare joint appearance of Steve Jobs and Bill Gates that i thought was the most exciting story at the D5 conference.

Look Ma no keyboard!...The next evolution in computer interaction.

globe101.gif Wednesday, 30 May 07 - 11:56 PM (GMT -05:00)
By Dennis Landayan in General

The technology that uses natural gestures, touch, and physical objects to interact with this revolutionary computer device is the Microsoft "Surface". The Redmond company unveiled this technology today that consist of a 30 inch screen embedded in a acrylic tabletop that looks like a futuristic furniture.

Basically, people will be able to interact with any digital media whether its photos, music, and videos by simply touching the screen ( ala Minority Report movie). For example, a person can manipulate a photo by simply using their hands to crop, resize, and organize them by simply touching the screen. Unlike the touch screen technology today, Microsoft Surface can accept multi-touch interaction and multi-user collaboration.

Another cool feature is the object recognition capability which a placement of a digital device will trigger different types of responses to the user. If a digital camera with a wifi capability is place on the surface it might trigger to downloads all the photos or print them ( talk about user-friendly!).

The Microsoft Surface technology will initially be release for commercial applications but the software company hopes to bring this technology for regular consumers. I for one, can't wait for this technology to mature because the keyboard as we know it today will be obselete with the use of surface computing device.

Watch the incredible demo of the Microsoft Surface technology below...simply amazing!
