The first time i saw this trailer during the sneak previews of Transformers, i and the rest of the audience was caught by suprised with a missing movie title towards the end of the preview. The producer JJ Abrams and the release date of "1-18-08" are the only bits of information that was shown at the end of the trailer.
I knew this trailer will caused a buzz among movie fans since i myself wanted to see it again so i can figure out what the movie is all about. So far with my google research, i found out that this is a top secret JJ Abrams movie and there is no title yet but the code name for this project is supposedly "Cloverfield". Who ever thought of this idea of showing a trailer before the biggest movie of the year, Transformers, without revealing a title is a genius. This is one of those great viral movie advertisement that will make this film a hit because of the interest it generate among JJ Abrams fans ( Lost fans) and movie goers in general.
Now let me go back to the trailer and my analytical guess of what the movie will be about. Viewing it several times, i came to the conclusion it will be a monster movie (duh!) from the point of view of the people partying at the beginning of the trailer. Based on the loud sound during the chaotic event and the massive explosions in the distance with the Statue of Liberty's head landing in the middle of the street, the movie is about "Godzilla"! If you listen carefully towards the end of the trailer when the party guest came out of the apartment, someone blurted out " i saw it...its alive...its huge!". So what do you think...is this the next Godzilla movie ( i hope) or something else, maybe an alien invasion like Independence Day?

Before i start my review, let me tell you what happened last night at the movie theatre.
We arrived at the theatre a little late around 8:40pm ( considering we have to find a parking space and stand in-line to buy the tickets) and when we went inside the place was already crowded. I checked the movie time screen and the 9:00pm show was still open which was a great relief because the previous time was sold-out. Just my luck, the line at the ticket counter was short so my wife bought the tickets and i checked which theatre the 9'oclock show was playing.
This multi-plex theatre has two level and i was hoping that we will be able to watch it on the ground level because the room is bigger and the screen is larger. Unfortunately, this time slot was playing on the upper level on one of the smaller room.
I was momentarily dissapointed but my excitement for the movie took over right away. So we went up to the escalator and lo and behold there was a long line at the entrance door! I was thinking to myself that a good seat will be harder to find with this many people. As soon as we went inside we found a nice spot ,almost in the middle section so we immediately sat before it was taken. No time at all, the room was filled very quickly and i could feel the excitement from the audience, especially the little kids.
The very smell of the buttered pop-corn around us made the experienced more movie like even though we were unable to buy one ourselves because the line was just too long. As soon as the lights dimmed, the anticipation was finally over and i will finally see if the movie lives up to the hype or to the trilogy.
My Review
I'm a big fan of the Spiderman movies so when i saw the first trailer a few months ago, i was really looking forward to watch the final installment of the trilogy. My verdict is "awesome!...awesome!...awesome!" the movie was action pack and the story move at a fairly quick pace compared to the first movie. The special effects in this movie is simply spectacular, especially the cgi transformation of the Sandman from sand to the human form. You can actually count the grain of sands on his body and his formation to different shapes are really done very well.
The new and improved Goblin ( Harry this time) is also awesome, especially with the new built-in helmet and razor sharp weapons on his arms. Saving the best for last is the Venom, he is Spiderman on steroids mixed with a touch of Alien/Predator. I'm not going to describe the plot of the movie since it may ruin the experience for some of you but get ready to have a kleenex or a handkerchief handy close to the end of the movie.
Some critics are saying that there are just too many going on in the movie but i think it answered a lot of the questions from the last two and it brought closure to the relationship between Peter Parker and MJ. Overall, i was pleased with the story line and especially the incredible effects of the movie so I will give Spiderman 3 the grade of A-.
Positive: Special effects, new villains, very good story line, fast pace
Negative: too many emotional scenes, not enough Venom
Grade: A-

update: May 6th,2007 - Time: 8:02pm est (US)
I'm getting ready to leave to watch Spiderman 3( yeeepeeee!!!!!) for the 9:00 o'clock showing hoping is not sold-out. My daughter watched it a few days ago from the special showing of the movie ( she actually watched it at 1:00am!). She said she likes it but its not better than Spiderman 2. When i heard this comment, i was kind of depress because she is a big fan of the "Spiderman" series and she really was excited to see this movie. She said the movie was good but it did not surpass the second movie (the best of the two) because there was too many going on the movie, especially with all the new characters. The suprising fact she told me was she cried at the end but i told her not to tell me anymore since i want to be suprise (hate to ruin my experience).
By the way today is my 19th wedding anniversary so im especially excited to watch this movie with my loving wife of 19 years (seems like 100 years...just kidding).
I will update tomorrow with my rmini review so everyone have a good day(night).
note: If you have seen the movie please leave a comment on my "forum" under movies.
